Jason, Brandon, and Jordan Kuipers are three brothers from Scottsdale, Arizona that founded the wristband company called ZOX Straps last year. From their exclusive Gold Club to their groundbreaking VIP division, ZOX is a company devoted to creating an in-crowd and making it grow. Their motto, “Do What You Love”, also exemplifies their other goal: partnering with businesses and entrepreneurs that want to make a name for themselves.
Question: Who’s the ideal person you want to sell to?
Answer: We want to sell to people that see the value in what we’re doing. Since we make such a limited number of each Strap, we really want them to go to people that enjoy them!
Q: Is exclusivity a large part of the ZOX Straps brand identity?
A: It’s definitely played a big role in our brand. Not just in the number of Straps we do, but in who we do them with. We’re extremely protective of the culture we’re creating and unfortunately have to turn down quite a few companies that don’t really fit.
Q: How did you come up with the idea to give special privileges to certain lucky buyers?
A: We put a lot of time into the way we formed these groups. We originally started with a Willy Wonka ‘golden ticket’ sort of idea, where we could surprise people with a way to really be a part of our brand. Interaction with those people has been a huge factor in continuing to make our product the best it can possibly be.
Q: What do Gold Club members gain access to?
A: Gold members get access to new Straps we’re thinking about releasing, as well as voting rights on what comes out next.
Q: The wristband is traditionally associated with access. Have you ever collaborated and provided wristbands for special events and parties?
A: Definitely! Earlier this year our Straps were sold for $250 each as VIP access to an Avicii concert. They’ve been used at a lot of high-end establishments in DC, LA, Detroit and Scottsdale for access and/or promotions as well. It’s very cool to meet with the owners and hear their vision for it; every time it’s been different and I absolutely love that.
Q: What is ZOX VIP?
A: ZOX VIP is Jason’s baby. While the Gold Club is great to showcase new designs to our loyal fans, we use VIP to plan out very intricate ideas we’re currently working on. We consider these members to be our brand ambassadors around the world, trusting each and every one of them to represent our brand properly and help spread the word. What’s even cooler is that Jason takes a very personal, hands-on approach with everyone in the group, spending countless hours every week helping any of them with their own business startups.
Q: What’s the ideal up-and-coming brand you want to partner up with?
A: Brands made by people with passion and heart. We want to work with people that seriously love what they do, and care about making a difference. I know it sounds cliché, but they are definitely out there and we want to help give them a voice.
Q: Where do you get your ideas for your designs?
A: We get our ideas from all over really. One of our newest designs came from a recent trip to a fabric store, another from a pair of running shoes. As we grow, it’s super important to us that we continue creating designs that really grab your attention. Our product is a conversation starter, so it has to spark that question of “wow, what is that!?”
Q: What do you want people to think of when they hear the name “ZOX Straps”?
A: A brand that is actively making a difference with a ridiculously amazing product.
